Bracha is a second greater and a great reader. She was well taught the skills of reading and is doing a great job in her fluency. Yet she is still struggling with the “magic E” or “silent E” whichever way you look at it. She is trying to self correct, but is still struggling. She had a great understanding of the text, and was able to explain to me the main idea of the text, interesting facts, etc. I focused my lesson on doing practice on the “magic e” Lesson plan; Practicing Magic E Words (10) ·         I would begin with explaining her again the concept of the magic e, and if we practice it shell become a better reader. ·         Use the fold and read cards, basically its cards that fold on the E so you read mat and then unfold and read mate. ·         Practice a few times till she gets familiar with the words. week 5 assignment 2

READING : Before we start reading engage the class in a discussion about a topic that correspond to the story we are going to be reading, it will be something that they have prior knowledge about. Students should read the story to themselves or in groups of two or three, with each kid getting a chance to read, while filling out a KWL chart. Have a class discussion about what we learned. Kids need to back their ideas of what they learnt from text of the story. WRITING: Have students write about a specific character in the story in first person point of view and including feeling. Students will be given out the guidelines of what is required for every part of the story. They will need to fill in a graphic organizer on their writing. They will exchange it with their friend so their friend can mark how well is their word usage, clarity, and how interesting is the writing. The girls will fill out a self-assessment on the writing.

week 5 assignment 1

How are students smart in different ways? Well there are many different types of intelligence, traditionally whoever aced a   hundred on the test or on the bee was considered smart. But today we know that there are many different types of intelligence, there is linguistic, logical mathematical, spatial, bodily kinesthetic, interpersonal, naturalistic. A child can be smart in one way yet not be as smart in another. That doesn’t mean that the child is not smart, on the other hand the child is smart in another aspect. How can teachers use multiple intelligence in a classroom? We as teachers need to make sure that we incorporate the multiple intelligence in the classroom, and make sure that each child can achieve his best through his intelligence. So instead of using the traditional way of lectures, teachers should incorporate different skills so that they target all different intelligence. Teachers need to keep in mind that all these different skills aren’t replaci...

week 4 assignment 1

I enjoyed working on the template for UBD for my ELA reading and writing. My understanding of the desired result is, to be able to get the kids to answer questions that are phrased to them one way, take that and apply it someplace else.    They should add it to their knowledge, so that they can apply it in other places in learning. The essential questions I use are ones that will get my kids to think, not necessarily ones that will get them to the right answer. Ones that will get them to uncover new thoughts and ideas. So what I did was looked at the curriculum, what needs to be taught. So in reading I want them to understand the story, in a deeper way, understand the characters role, why their personality is this way, and how does that effect the story. Therefor some of my essential questions were, what did the author mean to say with this phrase? How did you figure that out? Can you describe me this characters personality? Pro...

Backward design

Backward design is when one sets a main goal in his teaching, and the short term goals reflect that general goal. Meaning that if I set my main goal for the year to make sure my students know the alphabet start blending words and enjoy the reading, I need to make sure that each small goal, each unit, lesson plan, reflects that goal. I need to make sure to keep it exciting so they enjoy it. Make sure they gain their knowledge through exciting ways, so that they can acquire it better and eventually become great readers. Backward design is in essence only focusing on the main goal, when assessing the kids were assessing to see where are they up to,  not on the short term goal, but rather in the long term goal where are they up to. What do I as the teacher need to incorporate into my lesson to reach the ultimate goal.
